It is considered that careers related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), are the jobs of the future, ensure that girls and women have equal access to STEM education, and eventually to STEM careers, is essential from the point of view of human rights, science and development. Gender equality in the STEM field will ensure that children and men, men and women, acquire skills and opportunities to contribute to STEM and profit equally from its benefits. Both men and women, with an understanding of prejudices and relevant stereotypes, can begin to consciously limit their influence. Despite there is still a long way to go, and crucial questions remain to be answered, this project entitled "Understanding the Gender Gap in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Higher Education" will share the experience acquired by University Carlos III of Madrid and University of Essex. Hence, we will analyse the current situation of the gender gap in STEM and propose several recommendations to overcome it. Challenging stereotypes we send an intentional message of inclusion.
This project will help understand the needs of students, faculty, staff, researchers, and administrators to support women in STEM in higher education and, in particular, in YUFE partner institutions.
