Animorph is a workers’ co-operative based in London that seeks to prove that efficient technology can represent human interests, responsibility, and social inclusion while delivering cutting-edge innovation. They are working on ‘Shared Futures’, on online platform that allows users to create, co-ordinate, and deliver cross-community projects.

Commons ownership involves assets being held indivisibly by a collective rather than individually in the names of different members or member groups. Shared Futures will use an open-source codebase using an AGPL license to establish a future-proof and community-driven piece of software.

This project will develop a business model to demonstrate that this commons ownership approach is both sustainable and valuable for the communities it serves. A successful business model will secure the future of Shared Futures and maximise user uptake of the platform. The model will also serve Animorph’s broader mission of demonstrating to other developers that a commons ownership approach to software and platform development can be viable and sustainable.
