Social workers in the Essex County Council (ECC) spend up to 20 hours per week inputting case data, and attempting to manually extract and relate information from a variety of sources to facilitate decisions. Moreover, this is currently performed without the support of any integrated search and reasoning capabilities. These issues lead to an unnecessary cost in excess of five million pounds per year due to the inefficient use of social workers time, which could be better invested.
This project addressed this challenge by designing algorithms to address specific issues at the ECC, the current framework which provides insufficient support for social workers.
